Anti-Ragging Committee
“Ragging” means Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of colour, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.
Punishable ingredients of Ragging:-
v Abetment to ragging
v Criminal conspiracy to rag
v Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging
v Public nuisance created during ragging
v Violation of decency and morals through ragging
v Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt
v Wrongful restraint
v Wrongful confinement
v Use of criminal force
v Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences
v Extortion
v Criminal trespass
v Offences against property
v Criminal intimidation
Punishments:-
v Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
v Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits
v Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process
v Withholding results
v Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
v Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
v Cancellation of admission
v Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters
v Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period
v Fine ranging between Rupees 25,000/- and Rupees 1 lakh
v Collective punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment.
